Mangosteen

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tree found in the Pacific islands, Asia and Africa and the fruit is said to have numerous health benefits. The fruit tastes a bit like a cross between an orange and a peach, but fairly mild. The latest in scientific research shows mangosteen contains a class of naturally occurring poly phenolic compounds known as xanthones. Mangosteen pulp is known for being one of the tastiest fruits in the world. It is also gaining popularity as a delicacy and fine dessert ingredient. It can be used in salads, sorbets, smoothies, etc.
